a PM system would useful if you think you can do it and maybe some more stuff on the front page to make it seem more like a front page with a link page to various sites such as the LJ pages and an IRC link so the web browser gives you a message asking what program you want to use to open it with.

I do have a mild idea relating to where they could be used. But in general no. They can't be resized, At least not without lots of hackery and a horrible looking result. And not everyone likes them anyway.
