Fair question. It's a way to quickly gauge how well someone's known in the community and an impetus to get new arrivals saying hello to other people instead of lurking, etc.

As Kurrel said, Plus it allows us to hide incriminating photos that we don't want snooping parents or workmates to see. :P

So how do I actually get verified?

You're already 36% there. All you need to do is get to know the furs in Perth, preferably meet them IRL. They can then come here and vouch for you.

If all else fails. Come along to the next perthfurs gathering in July. The details will be on this site. We had 75 people show up last time.

Well I think its time to introduce myself.

Ive been a member for a while now, but have done little more then lurk in the background.
I'm relatively shy and reserved, very unsociable, and "get out" very little.
I currently live up in the Perth hills, and am studying 3rd year engineering, but also have a strong interest, and am quite skilled in the field of IT.

From what I understand, its customary to include something about ones start in the "Fandom". The truth is, I have no idea how I got started, all I really know it finding FA was a real eye-opener. Also, when I first find this site, i was surprised by how many other furries there are, in Perth alone.

The main reason for my past seclusion is due to my incredible lack of creativity and talent in any of the "Arts". Because of this, my presence in the fandom has gone pretty much unnoticed. This is in fact the first time I've ever talked about being a furry to anyone. Up until now its been something I just keep to my self.

So I think that's about it. I like listening to progressive metal, watching sci-fi, and I congratulate anybody who took the time to actually read all that.

I look forward to talking to you all soon.

Its more the lack of creativity and imagination that I find constricting. I can sketch things like scenery and take some amazing photos, but when its time to come up with something new and original, that's where I fail :(

Yeah I am a Border Collie because I used to have a pet Border Collie and I basically grew up with him so that's why.

i can relate to that as part of my fursona is based off Yuki, my cat... or at least she was until she disappeared 6months ago :( still i idolized her that much she became a part of me. Even if shes gone in a way shes still living through me :)

Wow that's actually kind of how I feel about about my dog.

Haha that's awesome, I was talking to some friends today saying how i would love a border collie as a pet. They're amazingly intelligent and loyal dogs. I guess being an owner of one you are well aware of that :P

I find it rather amusing that Kewey both started all that and also ended it.

I personally think it's quite rude to assume someone is lying no matter what their past holds, I mean I know you have every reason to assume hes lying but subtlety would probably have been useful. Though obviously I have had no firsthand contact with muskie here so I cannot really be judgemental.

Muskie, you should probably understand that you're pretty well known as a... bunch of things, none of which are good. Most people I've talked to put up giant flashing banners that read 'stay away from muskie'. Considering the unanimous negativity people tend to have towards you I'm inclined to agree with them, but unfortunately I have a little problem of not being able to judge someone before having firsthand experience with them, I just think that is a mean thing to do.

However, you cant expect with your history to come back into the community after a couple months hiatus and expect everyone to want to come to your house. Questions are going to be asked. Also bragging about a relationship is never a good idea, as it triggers the 'Schrodinger's cunt' paradox, whereby you cannot prove you are in a relationship without pics, and pics would jeopardize your relationship, so i just wouldn't mention it.

From what little firsthand experience I do have of you Muskie I can sort of see that you're trying to change your ways and fix your pretty smeared reputation (I mean if I had come off on the wrong foot to everyone I would want a second chance to correct it... or third or... fourth... whatever), but that'll probably take some time. Furthermore, posting a new message here in order to befriend the ignorant newbies before fixing any harsh feelings with the currently existing furs looks extremely suspect from anyone's perspective.

I'm only here as a conscientious objector and just in case you ask, I don't feel like associating with anyone here IRL.

*phew* 0.o @ Muskie - I can't blame you for trying to make up for past mistakes, everyone deserves to redeem themselves if they feel they have committed wrong in the past... but.. from a neutral perspective in all this you've asked for questions to be thrown at you by stating what you did in your first comment, assuming someone would automatically jump at you. It is best to 'not' assume and if someone still harps up you then have the rights to defend yourself. A simple introduction of "Hi, this is me, im this species and i live in perth" would have sufficed.

I do not believe anyone should be crucified for the rest of their life for past mistakes due to my own bad background, but i at the same time do not expect those i have hurt to ever forgive me. Some things will never heal and that is just something in time you will need to accept to move on from all this

My inflates are a Reindeer, Large inflatable bunny, an inflatable tiger and a few other sea creatures.

I do identify with cows more than other animals, but I haven't got one set character of any particular species. I tend to change according to my mood, and I usually feel more feline than cow-ish. And you know, cows tend to have the traits of being docile or dumb assigned to them >.>

That said, I would like very much to attempt to make a cow fursuit head, though I have the sneaking suspicion it would turn into something VERY hideous ;)

Are there many people roughly my age around here? I could only get some kind of idea from what I can read of the forums that aren't blocked to me right now ^-^

I think if you want something bovine but want to be seen as slightly less 'docile' a good alternative for a female is something like a tauren/minotaur... some masculine traits to be more like a bull than a cow, which can be linked to aggression. Alternately, I suppose an ox or buffalo, something along those lines would work so long as you don't mind the stockiness. But I'm ramblin'.

I think a majority of furries are mid-twenties - or at least, they were when I joined. I'm 22. Not everyone posts to this site regularly however. Many are on twitter and there are the LJ communities also. Best bet to chat to more people is to get onto #perthfurs on IRC. There's always at least ten people on there :)

Ive been lurking about the LJ communities for a while hehe. Ive never used IRC though, Ill have to look into getting on it ^-^

People still linger on livejournal, but most have moved a majority of their posting to twitter. Talking to people on LJ should work... But we had a problem with a guy stalking/assaulting Perthfurs so a lot of furs here have started protecting their information, and keeping journals/twitter accounts as friends-only. Fastest way to get verified here is to talk on IRC, get to know people and attend meets. If no meets are being organised, you can always organise one yourself :)

IRC is pretty easy - just #perthfurs on FurNet. Lot of people recommend Xchat as a client, but Jack uses mIRC and I use Pidgin, so it's a matter of personal taste as to which is the 'best.'

the best way to get verified is to meet people in rl there are usually a fair few meets so as long as your not overly shy you can get verified pretty fast ^^ also the IRC channel is the best way to get involved in these things as well I recommend getting xchat and getting on

You could try doing what we all did to get verification, as frustrating as it is, we need to see that you are going to show some dedication of sorts to our group and socialize, meet new people, participate and just be a part of us. Depending on where you live this could be easy or hard. For me cos i live so far down south i actually made special effort to come up and meet people. Most Perthfurs live in Perth, i dont, but i still made the effort.

Also may I ask, do you refer to yourself as a 'neko' because you have cat features or something else?
